Something New...
Sep 12th, 2010 at 4:46am

Hello:

Been away for a while working on book IV..

Here's something I just finished... a Cut and Thrust sword in pattern welded steel (my own "Hugs and Kisses" pattern) with a 32" long blade..Nitre Blue steel fittings, 2/3 blade length fuller..The 1/2 basket guard is forged from 1 piece of steel (as far as I know I am the only one so far that has figured out how to do this in one piece, and that isn't out of a piece of sheet iron either..this is  forged from barstock...heh heh heh) and the grip is a chevron pattern bronze wire wrap with a German silver spacer wire.. OAL is 40 1/4"..

Not too bad for an old man woring outta his back yard..

UMMMM....WOW?  That's way better than the one I made with a strip of steel from the hardware store a hacksaw and a bench grinder....  I would love to try working with a forge like that.

Wow...that is really really really nice!  I've often thought about taking up blacksmithing, but I'm not sure there's much of a career in it these days...  I bet that sword would make any blacksmith throughout history proud, it's amazing!

A fine piece!

Would you also be so good as to post some close-ups of the pattern welding and the hilt furniture, please?

Cheers!
