Inexpensive throwing axes
Jul 28th, 2010 at 11:35am

Here is a list of good throwing axes for$31 or less. All are from KultofAthena.com
I have no connection with this company but have received excellent service and quality products at great prices.
Some of these axes have handles of a softer wood which is more prone to breakage but handles are cheap to replace and the ax heads are worth more than the price of the ax.
Authentic axes:
Francesca ax         #6147     $19.95
Norse ax               #6146     $24.95
Throwing ax          #6148     $24.95
Viking bearded ax  #6145     $24.95
Viking throwing ax #xnh52    $29.95
Hanwei Viking ax   #pc2042   $30.95
Here are two that are not authentic but are good throwers and fun to throw. They are 1 piece all steel:
Blackjet     #kr0036b   $29.95
Screamer  #600488     $29.95

This is the one I want...

I wouldn't be able to swing it for very long, but as nasty as that thing is, I wouldn't need to.

Unfortuantely, the first 'hawk I bought was lost in a fire. Never even found the head. I replaced it at the local rendezvous, but I sure miss my original one. Haven't shopped at KultofAthena yet, but I have my eye on a few things there. Thanks for the link!

Gives one an idea for Christmas...

Are these things from kultofathena sharpenable? I don't want a sword or axe I can't sharpen. If I get something like that I like it fully functional. That's why I cast my own bronze sword and axe. Doesn't hold an edge for very long, but I just love the look of bronze.

Hallo there wannasling!
I have casted bronze axes for a while, using Bronze Age technology; why do you say that they do not hold the edge?
In which percentage did you put in the metals?
Some archaeological bronze axe are almost as strong as steel, just a little less - and this is the reason why iron weaponry replaced the bronze one so late in the Iron Age  Smiley
I can suggest you some percentages if you want!
Greetings,
Mauro.

Might be a little off topic but I'd love to see any pics you have of your work Mauro. Bronze weaponry is so cool looking.  Cheesy

Hallo Morphy!
I continue the OT, and suddenly close it: I've seen that wannasling has opened a topic about his bronze sword, and I've asked him if I could post my pictures there.
I have plenty of them, because I've been melting for 3 or 4 years, with 2 friends of mine. We were studying bronze foundings at that time, and decided to make some experiments with Bronze Age technology, because we needed to get some informations that the foundings were not able to give us.
That experience then convinced me to turn into ironsmithing; but I'll explain everything in the proper topic  Smiley
Thank for your interest, it's really pleasant!
And thank to jimt for having hosted this little OT here  Roll Eyes
Greetings,
Mauro.
