The Kestrosphendone
Jul 14th, 2010 at 7:30pm

Does anybody have any other information on this asome weapon other than this I was thinking of taking a 8in nail, cutting of the head ,and adding fins for the dart. for the sling I would start out siera nevada style and then shortly after the pouch transfer to a apache style sling and thats pretty much it. Like I said earlier does anybody have any other information on the weapon and more importanitly, WHAT STYLE WOULD BE USED    Undecided .

A kestrophendone dart would actually be closer to 1-2 feet long , with a wooden shaft and a heavy head. The fins would also have to be either strong plastic or wood, as they actually need to have a special sling to be thrown with: similar to a sierra-Nevada sling, but thinner, and the pouch is uneven( one cord is longer than the other)

using this model, it was said that a rang of 100 m is easily achievable ( if ur able to do it with a sling in the first place, anyhow)

i would imagine that one would use a byzantine sidearm, though this is purely personal opinion.

also: http://slinging.org/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1074713443/0

i do remember from another source someone trying out the version with the leather pouch, and it greatly under-performed compared to the one posted above.

100m? the people testing it, and historical records said that 30yds was the absolute max distance.

there might be 100m somewhere, i mean it is a fairly aerodynamic dart, though slightly heavy. i've yet to try it.

I had my own ideas about the cestros but never followed it through, I really should dig that out again.

When you build it, can you post some close ups'?  The pictures in the thread are no longer there.  Bill

Yes, could you post some pics if you make one?  I saw the old thread and wanted to make one, but I wasn't sure how to go about it.

Embarrassed  also, does anyone know how to pronounce kestrosphendone?  I have never heard anyone say it out loud...

The design that YURIK posted is the picture that does not show up.  It was frustrating reading about how great that design worked and how simple it was.  Can someone repost it?  Thank you, Bill
