If I found myself in a situation where I had to hunt with a sling I wouldn't expect a clean kill, especially with bigger game. My hope would be to disable the animal so that I could dispatch it with a club or knife. I think a clean kill would be a very lucky shot.

I used a sheep skull as a target today. I hit the skull just above the right eye socket. the stone snapped the skull in half and when I pieced it together it had a hole where the stone had hit .

Thanks guys !! It was a pretty small stone and not my most powerful throw but I'm glad i got it pretty clean. Took maybe 40-50 throws over 10-15 mins from 15-20meters was getting extremely close with some of the previous shots but when it hit, the top half of the skull shot up around 2m in the air. Wish I had got it on camera.
Next skull I find I'll try film it.

Good shooting. And that shows how powerful the sling can be.
BTW, it also pointed out the problem with hunting with a sling. You need a suicidal animal who will sit still while you flail away.
I don't think there are many people on this board, past and present that can consistently make first round hits in a vital area with a sling. Me included.

For sure!
This is why I'll never try to hit anything larger than a rabbit with a sling.
Small game only.
