And finally again the scene from the Tapestry, copied in silk. The colours, however, do not correspond to those of the original. They are my colours. The stones are original slingstones from the Lüneburger Heide whose authenticity has been proved. They are from the 11th century.

That's a really cool keepsake Jaegoor, i would be thrilled to own sling stones in that condition  Grin

Two very interesting pictures.

Although lie between both pictures more than 200 years, the Slinger are absolutely same in the technology.

This one is not strictly medieval, it dates from 1605 or 1606. Here is David by Guido Reni (1575 - 1642) :
...

The same, but bigger : http://everypainterpaintshimself.com/article_images_new/David_Contemplating_1.jp... If will get even bigger if you click it Smiley

With this one, we can see the peculiar style fo the sling : http://www.artliste.com/guido-reni/david-tete-goliath-105.html. Try zooming.
It's a very thin retention cord, twisted loop on the index, with a lozange netted pouch and a very tapered HUGE twisted release cord.

A bit later, the same painted another David, without any fancy hat : http://www.wikipaintings.org/en/guido-reni/david-and-goliath-1610 (for more details, click on view all sizes then original)
The sling was put back in the folds of the toga but we can see the oversized release cord with the cute tassel ^^

I can't guess why the release cord is so much larger than the pouch sides or the retention cord...

In the drawing of Bono Mellius in the post of Jaegoor, I think is not the feet that are backwards, but the drawing of the smock of the soldier was not well.
The position is the same of the precedent post.

ok in fairness, I popped in here ready to debate since the thread title was "More medieval Sling Pictures" and I was curious how you could find a photographer in the middle ages let alone get slingers still long enough to pose for pictures...alas, I had forgotten that pictures can also be "drawn" :-P
