Geologists: 'We May Be Slowly Running Out Of Rocks

"A rock can take millions of years to form, but it only takes a second for someone to skip a smooth pebble into a lake, and then it is gone." Dr. Kaiser said. "Perhaps these thoughtless rock-skippers don't care if they leave our planet completely devoid of rocks, but what about our children? Don't they deserve the chance to hold a rock and toss it up and down a few times?"

I´m not sure it this article makes any sense. It seems this geologist has never heard about volcanos, which are producing volcanic type rocks at this very moment.

lmao - but all the rocks in lakes (and I've skipped my fair share and somebody elses lol) haven't gone off planet.
eventually the lake will dry up and another will form somewhere else and the rock moving will start again.

Rocks don't disappear they just get moved about a bit Smiley

I think future slingers should be safe if we are careful and avoid crushing the nice rounded rocks when we use them and move them about.  Where those future slingers find those rocks should be a minor theme in the greater scheme of things.

Ha! I should´ve known it was a prank news. The idea of running out or rocks is so stupid I feel stupid for taking it seriously.

Ummm does he not know how those rocks get there in the first place???  Any rock you throw into a lake for one will likely be carrried out eventually by a small river that exits the lake, which will end up on a riverbank, which will get skipped.  It's when they get out in the ocean that they might stay there a little longer as I think around here the tides tend to pull em out.  Also, all those little pebbles are made from larger rocks and even pieces of boulders or mountains, therefore new ones are always being mad due to falling rocks breaking, rivers running over them, and sand blowing over them.
