quick and dirty atlatl

for those of you thinking of making your first atlatl but feel intimidated, don't be. the thrower (atlatl) itself needn't be complex at all. this one was a branch i found in my backyard less than hour ago and, after a little work with a pocket knife and a broken coke bottle, i have a perfectly servicable chucker. it is the dart itself that needs your attentions, but i'll save that for a different thread.

Posts: 161	Re: quick and dirty atlatl Reply #9 - Apr 8^th, 2010 at 12:08am I've seen a few made from a branch with a fork, so that one side of the fork is the handle and the other side is broken or cut to make the spur. Refinement improves performance I'm sure, but do these "naturally formed" spur atlatls work?

I like how it is simple, but nowhere near as crude as most other simple designs, such as the Ozark Cliff-Dweller design. (Which in my opinion, is at the fence ) I am currently in the process of making my first atlatl following this design out of an old white wax wood bo (staff).

Ozarks are some of my favorite throwers. the pegs let you get a boatload of torque. killer job on the spur and channel, dude.
