Red Oak Board Bow
Mar 25th, 2010 at 2:23pm

Looking at David M.'s pictures of his bow reminded me that I never showed everyone here my bow that I made for my dad's Christmas present.  It's shaped from a 6'x2"x1" piece of red oak that I got at the local hardware store, and backed with fiberglass sheetrock tape.  This was my first real atempt at bow making, I don't count the simple stick bow that I had previously made.  It was lot's of fun, and I am currently working on my second one (for myself).
Here's some video of it, sadly I don't have any photos.  I guess I could go to my dad's to take shots of the finished product, but I haven't done so yet.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIhX6-S74Fw ; Enjoy!  Not as pretty as Dave's, but I think it turned out pretty well.

Excellent job on that bow and the arrow. How long did it take to make and what tools did you use? Did you have to add any special glue to the fiberglass tape. I love how you make your videos too very informative.

I worked on it off and on for a month or so, using nothing but a rasp.  The fiberglass is in three layers, and I used Titebond wood glue to glue it on, since that's what the online tutorial I used called for.
Thanks for the compliment!  I always try to make my movies interesting Smiley
