16-strand Peruvian Brading Instructions
Mar 16th, 2010 at 6:15pm

http://www.jeanleader.co.uk/othercrafts/peruvianbraid.html

I just found this site today. I haven't had time to look over the instructions to see how easy they are to understand, but they are the first 16-strand Peruvian braid instructions I've found online.

Great find!

Now all we need is to put this on the sling construction thread (But probably make a section for "braids that apply to sling-making" first.)

I think it is a rather good instruction.  Today I finally made a small attempt at it, with some small piecec of yarn, and I think that within 1" of fumbling along I sort of began to get the gist of it.  But I will need a lot of practice before I think of attempting a sling.

Considering the fact that this braid looks rather complicated, it is really relatively simple to learn.  Well, that`s what I think Cheesy.
The instruction really was a good find.

The picture shows the same piece as the last one, I continued to braid later. It is easy to see that I used the first inch to figure it out, later I came into the flow, and reversing the spiral was a walk in the park.

Really cool Tim, all my latest slings are braided and I really like the more complicated braids (no three strands for me... Wink) Lambing time is around the corner, this is a fine project to undertake while "on nightshift"!

Hey, has nobody else attempted this braid yet.  I`ll really recommend it for those interested, as it is not that difficult, but still look .... impressive.

Well, so far, I think you are the first of the rank and file to have braided your way beyond the four strand round Cool

Search for Sling Braiding of the Andes. Here is the amazon link http://www.amazon.com/Sling-Braiding-Andes-Adele-Cahlander/dp/0937452033

Shows a lot of different patterns for 16 strand braids. Some of the longer patterns are 30 or more steps before repeating. Doesn't really get into making the slings as much as I would like. Mostly it is focused on the braiding of the cords. Has really good pics of very nice slings.

Hm, eight strand square is the standard for my braided slings....but admittedly considerable simpler than this peruvian one.

Kuggur, if you are braiding 8-strand square you are more than ready for this 16-strander.   And for which is the simpler...I dont know much about that 8-strander beyond seeing an instruction for it, but maybe you will be surprised Wink

Okay, I spent a couple of minutes Cheesy teaching myself 8-strand square braid, and it is much simpler, easier to learn, and faster to braid.  But still...
timann
PS It`s not like I am a braid-learning superman which made me able to learn the 8-strand braid super fast, but the fact that I have already spent a long time learning and using the 4-strand round braid, which is basically the same.
