Does the search only go back a certain amount? For instance, I was looking for a thread about using sling as clubs(http://slinging.org/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1240605101/0#0) but it didn't come up. I searched "sling as club" first, then after I had found it I searched it word for word ("sling as a club") but still nothing.  Questioning

good question - I keep meaning to see if there's anyway of backing it all up and keeping it indexed and in order.

We could really do with upgrading the forum software - but given that usually buggers things up bigtime on other forums I frequent - I'm a bit relectant to do it without a comprehensive backup first.

Have to go look through the tools again.

As it's 90% text I don't think we're looking at gigabytes of data.

Maybe a gig and a bit once you add pics and videos.

If we had the backup utility installed, Hmm...

Why would a new forum software be better?

lots of things, new security features, maybe a points system, extra smilies, multi quote facility.

But as we don't currently appear to have a backup facility - it's not going to happen anytime soon lol

i like this better, mainly because you can post pictures easily, and since we don't have too many sections, just 6-7 of them (i think mods have one more wing of them, but that's just them). for forums like EDCF and Paleoplanet, and knifeforums, to name a few, they need larger areas for some 600-1500 active members.

New software won't give use extra topics unless we want them. At least to my knowledge after an upgrade we'd still have just general, other topics, other primitive weapons, a trading post, an intro section, and an administrative section. As for pictures, I bet that some newer software out there has a way of automatically resizing photos. That would be pretty easy. In another couple years I'd be up for updating the software even without a backup, but not right now.

Massi - WTF? It's called a sling. You use it to throw rocks farther and faster than you could otherwise. That's all.

I think we should back it up before updating software.

Never update without backing up.
I've never been on a forum that hasn't lost data during an update.

So it's backup first and then update. If I ever figure out how to install the backup facility, could be a chicken egg situation.

Might have to update to get the backup button, which'd be a real sod.

and no it wouldn't change the layout, but it would add some useful features.
