check the size - we have a pretty small avatar image size, anything larger won't work.
generally you need to resize the image before uploading.

ah ha - that works.
just attach your avatar to a post and use the link from the post in the box for the web address in your profile - like I've done with the zebra-ant Smiley (it's a hybrid Wink

hey thanks guys, C_A - most helpful!

I tried resizing down to about 100x75... any idea what the limit actually is? Had a hunt but can't seem to find a reference to it.

Some bright spark will belt me over the head with a Big Obvious Link in a minute... I like bright sparks Cheesy

Nice ant btw.

specially adapted to blend in with black n white weavework, and possibly zebra crossings.

if you crop your image down and lose most of the bowl and background it'll look better as an avatar jax Smiley

and you two can't be cavemen - no beards Wink

CA raises a good point. Must get a more up to date (ie not 4 or 5 years old ) photo in my full feral glory.

Follically challenged or gifted types needn't be feeling left out of anything... we can't all be of the kinda caveman stock that explains why some people got around to inventing the "back, sack n crack wax" a looong time before others  Wink

Cropping worked great - but you've turned blue and lost your smurf hat Smiley

I gave in a year or so ago and just let the damned stuff grow. And grow. And grow. Until it threatened to break out of the house one night and lurch down the hill moaning "brains....brains...." but I let it stay on until the end of winter.

It is making a steady counter-assault after I decimated it with a surprise dawn raid a few months back.

Strangely enough if you do grow a big honking faceful and then shear it all off you find yourself thinking you've forgotten something or left something at home Tongue and suddenly you have a lot of free time because thoughtfully scratching it was taking up two hours a day.
