OOOO that is a nice one!  It looks really sturdy to me for some reason or other.  I love the wrapping on the handle and the wrist loop, that's a good touch.

Ironwood handle, slate blade, para-cord wrap.  Melted nylon glue.

Needs constant sharpening.  It's a real pain in the neck to carve a hole in ironwood by hand -- I was looking for maple and grabbed the wrong fallen branch.

Surprisingly, it chops well, and I used it to make the apple-wood staff in another post.

Hallo there!
Here're some pictures of my second attempt in forging a socket axe (typical of the Iron Age in my region).
Neither socket nor the blade hardened enough to bear considerable blows, so the forging resulted in a failure; still I learned how to bend an iron sheet by hammering it  Smiley
AND I'll probably return to forging spearheads for my experimental archaeology purposes  Grin

More pictures, and a much more detailed description, are on my site http://ilferrochecanta.forumfree.it.
There's also a full-length video showing the quench of this axe there  Smiley
Greetings,
Mauro.

The back of that ax looks pretty wicked. Did you design it to be sharp or did it just end up looking like that?. And of course, good job with it.

Love your works,Paleoarts!
I'm curious and probably others would be too,to know which axe would you take of the many you have made,if you would have to survive with it. I'm curious what wood, what stone, what attachment method would last the longest.
I'm not familiar with ironwood, but i guess a ironwood celt and perhaps some basalt axe head wedged into it ,and wrapped with rawhide so it can't split the would should hold a very long time.
