the center spike is hardwood mounted with a barbed bone point and set into the shaft with pitch glue.

this type of spear is more for open water (ocean) fishing obviously, since the spines wouldn't do so well impacting stones or rocky bottoms.

When I was a kid, the neighbor (a WWII vet) had a whole collection of such things he'd brought back from the islands.  We kids were fascinated, of course.   Most of the ones he had were elaborately carved from bamboo and native woods, with long, many-barbed bamboo heads.

The Inuit one makes more sense to me, but the craftsmanship is amazing, never the less.  Great work!

I'm with Eoraptor. I am more partial to the Inuit one, but man, if your local museum ever wants a replica, they ought to beat down your door!
