Walter, you use tapering on both cords, then add aditional strands as you need them, right?
That's a good idea. I did something similar for the pouch one time and didn't work out.

My favorites vary, but my current love affair is with a 4 strand braid, solid pouch made from hemp, then laundered.  I'm also a big fan of the "Rockman" design and have several made in jute.   When playing sling golf, I favor my aussie sling with a rockman style braided hemp tail and lead.  This is because the aussie sling holds a golf ball nicely, so my friends can take off their helmets now Grin

P.S. Walter, your pictured sling is awesome, very nice work.
P.P.S God Bless Rockman!

Hello all!

Let me briefly introduce myself: I am Peter, 43 years old. I live in Duisburg, Germany, near the river Rhine (Rhein to us Germans, with an abundance of pebbles, lucky me... Cheesy ) and have been lurking this great site (forum, how-tos and the rest) for about two months, inbetween braiding hemp slings with cupped leather pouches. (I have combined several designs; pictures may also follow later, if anyone is interested. Smiley )

My favorite sling design is the rockman sling (besides what I mentioned above, of course). I am going to try it out as soon as possible - braided with 3/6 strands and also with 4/8, round braided.

I have two questions concerning this thread:
- Could anyone point me to the tutorial for the Captain Paul design sling mentioned above? I wasn't able to find it via search function.
- @ slinger87: Ain't the rockman sling exactly that: a braided split pouch sling? Or do I miss something?

Bye,
Peter

yes and no, by split pouch I meant you split it in two and braid the pouch, with a rockman sling you weave the pouch

My favorite design has to be the paracord sling that Cliff posted in the how to section. I have always favored slings that can be made with just fiber. Though one of my customers just brought me a nice large piece of leather so that opinion may change.

Am I the only one who finds it slightly amusing that people are debating the merits of riot shields against zombies in a totally normal manner? I do love this forum. -Morphy

There are photos of the templates he uses here: http://slinging.org/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1203978867/0 and here: http://slinging.org/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1243018411/0#0

They are attached by melting the end of a cord to a fat blob and then whipping/binding the leather around it.

Yeah Rockman, using 1/8" hemp, I've got six cords just below the finger loop. I drop 2 and then add one about 4' long horizontally and do one complete round braid to hold it there. That is what gives me 3 warps per split. Then I drop the ends of that 4 footer while braiding down the release cord. Hope that makes some sense.

Camo-sling, glad you like the sling! Next one should be better. Going to use this pattern for a yucca cordage sling.

My favorite sling design is a simple one; regular leather pouch w/braided cords and leather retention loop, and a leather piece at the release knot.

If this question had been asked a few weeks ago I would have said this kind... the Rat Man or three strand sheep shank sling.  But....

Though the sling in my previous post holds rocks OK and has great range, rocks do occasionally do fall out of it.  I wanted this sling to be better because it's one I sort of developed, with it in mind that there's nothing really original in a weapon this old.  I have to admit that when I leave the house the sling I reach for is Jeffrey, my peacefuljeffrey five strand sling.  He uses paracord and I use cotton, but they're nearly the same.  This is my sling of choice.  It's easy to use, has good range, and doesn't drop rocks, regardless of the shape or size.  I have some tape pouch slings that I like to use and some Rock Man style slings, especially the longer ones, that work beautifully, but for right now it's peacefuljeffrey's sling for me.
