Very nice! I gotta make one now.
A question for David and 4accord- What type of leather is that? I need some softer leather, as the stuff I have is thick and as soft as nail. (bad simile)

I've been using a suede that is 2mm thick and very soft.  That's what you see in these pictures.  It has served me very well on many slings.  I have also used a thicker and stiffer leather but can't recommend it as well, unless in a three-strap design with the straps being about an inch wide.  I got a good supply of the suede quite cheaply in a single bag of remnants at Hobby Lobby, which is a US chain of stores.

Very well.  No problem at all, provided there is no great stress at the cord holes.  Doubling the leather at the hole gives a lot of extra strength, as does the loop method of the Morningstar design.

A bit reluctant to take any credit? At least you put some pictures up. Grin

How big you make it depends on the size of ammo you want to throw. If you are unsure, you can make a paper version first and see how well that fits, then use it as a template when its right.

Start with a rectangular strip of leather that is slightly narrower than your chosen ammo and long enough to wrap half way around it with enough to spare for attaching.

Cut the pouch from each end towards the center. Leave about a third of the length uncut in the center.

I found a small local leather goods manufacturer where you can walk in, rummage around, and buy usedful scraps of leather in various thicknesses and colours.

Over the year since we started this discussion, I have developed what is now my standard.  I attach pictures.  I don't tie knots but just use a self-strangling threading of the cords, which has turned out to be very secure.  I also punch my holes a little off center towards the inside so the cupping is not too dramatic. For tennis balls, I am doing well with a 7 inch by 2.5, 2-inch cuts, and an overall length (folded) of 33".  For rocks, I'd make the pouch closer to 5.5 x 2.25.

Here's an example of the leather blank that I use.
