Home made Stick /Weapon

Just thought I would post this picture of a stick I made last year Dimensions are as follows
Overall length 34" Ball Diameter 1 3/4" Tip length 2" Top Dia 3/4" Tip Dia 1/2" Weight 20 oz or 1 1/4 lbs
The head is made from a very large Stainless Steel Ball bearing Shaft is Hickory turned from a pickaxe Handle the tip is made from Brass The Balance is shown to be almost sword like (It'snot easy to convince the wife to pose like this), and there are two of them as I made one for my son which is 36 " long as he is much taller than me. I have never had any one disagree with me whilst I am carrying it.

Nice work!     Back when I started in police work long ago, my Sergeant had a huge custom-made "nightstick" with a large piece of heavy-wall brass tubing inlet over the end.  It looked so intimidating he said he never had to use it....

very nice looking cane...

where did you get two huge steel balls for those ( Shocked Tongue)?

but seriously, was it hard to find such large ball bearings?  and are they soldered/welded to bits of pipe for attaching to the shaft?  is the pipe bit pinned to the shaft to keep it from popping off, or is it glued or press fit?

these are very cool...i might like to make a slightly lighter version...

In answer to the question the ball is from an air pump non return valve system this has been weldeded to a 6" length of studding the piece of pipe is actually a bit of solid bar with a hole drilled through it and the whole handle is two part glued into a hole in the stick, the thread on the studding holds it in place, the tip is turned from a solid piece of brass with a hole through it this is screwed into the bottom of the stick and the finished of with Plastic metal to hide the screw head. hope this answers your question

Theodore Roosevelt popularized it, but claimed it was an old adage at the time (1903).

The actual saying goes "speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far."

While I don't think it quite qualifies as a 'big' stick, I think T.R. would have liked Dave M's stick....I know I definitly do  Smiley
Great job, Dave!

I think it is very beautiful in its simplicity. Even elegant and not over flashy but still demands a sort of respect.
