New Slinger From Alabama
May 6th, 2008, 3:46pm

Greetings everyone.  I must say that finding this site has been one of the most fun and time consuming things that I have done on the internet for some time Smiley  I just got started slinging last week, have made five slings already, gotten my older brother hooked, and have been casting on my lunch break every day.  Wish I had gotten into this years ago, talk about fun!  Anyway, just wanted to intro myself.  Anyone on here from Birmingham, Alabama?

So what have you gone for sling wise ?
a couple of bits of string and some leather or a braided job ?

Welcome to the forum anyway :-)

My first sling was of the woven pouch design found in the how-to section of this website.  My second started as a woven pouch (sort of) and then I laced a piece of leather into the middle of it.  Turned out ok, but I made the cords a little shorter than I would prefer.  I have since made a couple with simple leather pouches just to experiment with cord length, and another woven one for my brother as a wedding present (my brother's name is David, so I thought it appropriate).  After having exhausted my ready supply of cord, I must now go out and buy some more before I attempt my next project, which will be a braided sling with a woven pouch that I saw on the forum yesterday.  I will try to post pictures of my slings later this afternoon.  lol I guess Birmingham England counts.

I finally was able to get a better camera and took some shots of my newest sling.  I think it is the one that I will stick with for now, I seem to be able to get more consistancy out of it than my previous attempts.

Holy Cow! that was a lot bigger than I thought it was going to be.  Sorry about that guys, I will try to remedy that problem with my next post.

pic resized :-)

in general try and make any pics posted somewhere between 640x480 and 800x600 - anything bigger will usually involve scrolling of one kind or another.

I have made several solid pouch slings.  So far I have enjoyed the split pouch, though I did just make an Apache sling, and I like it a good deal as well.  I enjoy making the slings almost as much as I do slinging, so I doubt I will stop making them any time soon Smiley  I will post a picture of some of my others when next I get a chance.  I would like to try a woven solid pouch... I might try the netted sling next.
Thanks for the resize!  I'll try to keep that from happening in the future.

no worries - download and install this little utility and resizing is as simple as right clicking the picture, selecting photo gadget resize and picking the size you want.
http://www.download.com/Photo-Gadget/3000-2192_4-10396427.html?tag=lst-1&cdl Pid=10396428

takes all the hasle out of it. you can just transfer pics from your camera right click the one you want to upload and pick the size and it's done :-)

If we had  a utilities section on the site I'd post it there - but we don't (don't think anyone's ever suggested it actually lol)

Nice looking sling - even if I can't stand split pouches lol
