... and I was curious anyway :-)
If you've got one - please attach pic of said dog :-)

Bilbo the italian spinone - just goes mental(video to follow when it stops raining - if it ever does) when he sees a sling. pretty much never finds anything I sling and when he does, he pretty much never brings it back, just walks around carrying it till I sling something else :-)

lol dogs aren't really pets in tha same way that rabbits and hamsters are. they're more part of your pack - you're certainly part of theirs :-)

The chinese tend not to keep anything as a pet that they can eat - which is why you don't have the same traditions us westerners have.

I don't get the pets thing at all.  A dog is like a stupid, loud baby that never grows up.  I agree with tint.

Well, everybody has a right to an opinion but I don´t have to agree.
As I said before, animals are more dependable and loyal than any human could hope to be,sad to say..Dogs are alot smarter than they get credit for, learn by experience. I have worked with dogs for almost 20 years,so I know what I am talking about Wink

oh well, guess I am from a country where 99.9% of the population cares for animals.

It's not that I don't care about animals, I just don't see the point in keeping an animal that craps on your carpet that you don't intend to eat.

So are pigs.  And you can eat pigs.  And pigs can root for truffles.  Perfect.

I do love the idea of a dog maniacally chasing a sling stone though - dogs may be smart, but I don't think they can find the exact stone slung, can they?  I expect it's not dangerous though.

My oldest dog,Nero(Flatcoat/rottweiler mix 17 years old)actually finds them almost every time. Not that big a mystery actually,my scent sticks to the stone so he smells that.He doesn´t maniacally chase the stone,he sits and watches me throw, then just trots on after it.
He is old so he lives with my mother and her 2 golden retrievers and 1flatcoat since he grew up there and he is the undisputed packleader.younger dogs have tried to dispute his leadership, but he beats the hell out of them. He may be grumpy old dog,but is still more than a match for any challengers.

Used to hunt rats in the forest with him,I chased them out and he finished them, used to think that stuff was fun when I was a kid Undecided
Now he keeps badgers of my moms property..

Eldar,just chillin´on the couch

someone's been looking in the mirror ;-)

And once again making pontifications on a subject they have absolutely no knowlege of.
If you've got a sensible point - fair enough - but why bother just posting to throw out insults ?
It is very childish.

Is it an insult if the object of the insult is not insulted, or can even comprehend the insult, or even the idea of an insult in words?  And in fact I do have knowledge of dogs.  My sister is mad about dogs, and she has been keeping two alsatians in my parent's house for a while now.

...to all the dogs that ever assisted mankind:

Quote:
Epitaph to a dog

When some proud son of man returns to earth,
Unknown to glory, but upheld by birth,
The sculptor's art exhausts the pomp of woe,
And storied urns record who rests below.
When all is done, upon the tomb is seen,
Not what he was, but what he should have been.
But the poor dog, in life the firmest friend,
The first to welcome, foremost to defend,
Whose honest heart is still his master's own,
Who labors, fights, lives, breathes for him alone,
Unhonored falls, unnoticed all his worth,
Denied in heaven the soul he held on earth-
While man, vain insect! hopes to be forgiven,
And claims himself a sole exclusive heaven.
Oh man! thou feeble tenant of an hour,
Debased by slavery, or corrupt by power-
Who knows thee well must quit thee with disgust,
Degraded mass of animated dust!
Thy love is lust, thy friendship all a cheat,
Thy smiles hypocrisy, thy words deceit!
By nature vile, ennobled but by name,
Each kindred brute might bid thee blush for shame.
Ye, who perchance behold this simple urn,
Pass on-it honors none you wish to mourn.
To mark a friend's remains these stones arise;
I never knew but one-and here he lies.
