g'day from sydney

G'day,
I'm new to the art of slinging, so, this site is awsome! I came across it whilst trawling the web for info about primitive weaponry, and am amazed at the amount of information it contains Shocked. after a quick browse, I was inspired to make some slings and get out there and try my hand at it.
glad I did, it was mad fun Cheesy.
the slings I used were the apu sling (described in the article section on the homepage) and a variation of it that was posted up by asemary, you can see it in this thread, reply#28:

http://slinging.org/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1172017416/15#15

made some swiss arrows too...  but thats another story.
looking forward to learning and slinging a lot more Wink
cheers,

G'day, mate!

I think that's the proper response, anyway...  Welcome to our little worldwide community!  Sounds like the sling bug has bitten you good.

So, what is an "apu sling"?  Google tells me that "apu" means "auxiliary power unit" but that does not seem to fit.  I think Google has me pegged as a propeller-head.

Greetings from another Aussie. I'm from the Southern Capital but still Oz. I love my slings but it's a solitary sport and your mates will think you're a bit wierd.

Good luck and keep us all posted.

Dale,
the sling I used is called the 'appu' sling (I can't spell), in the article by Malik Lund.
simple is best, so two knots in a length of cordage, suits me down to the ground.

gotta run, I think my flour glandes are burning. Shocked

Oh, yes!  I read that article but I did not pay attention to the name.  "Appu" is the name of his teacher.

G'day everybody,

thanks for taking the time to reply to my intro post and for the warm welcome!

C_A, if I may abbreviate you like that, it's true google is good, but it aint that good,
and Dale is from Cali-what-i-a, hmmm, LOL never heard of it Grin.

Steven, "slingshank"... dude, that sounds badcore... I like it. Wink.

n.b. my flour glandes didn't burn too bad, so I'll post  up some pics of me slinging them, in the appropriate thread when I have the time. It's been raining the past week so I havn't had the chance to sling at all Cry.

cheers,

Kava_fiend

Rain has its advantages. You get cooled automatically and there are less people running around.

slinging in the rain.
Nope never appealed to me :-)
I suppose it depends where you sling - I pretty muich wouldn't sling where there were people running around anyway - too much danger of seriously damaging one.

Abbreviate away old chap :-)
I've been called so many things over the years that an abbreviated set of initials for a pseudo personality is quite refreshing :-)

Mind you that said the curious aardvark brand is constantly expanding- soon to take in curious aardvark brand biltong and droewors (assuming I can get a serious working recipe for droewors ;-)
and find some work around for the ludicrous uk 'hygiene' laws.

For slinging stones I use seldom used field roads. But finding a really empty spot is quite difficult here. I am living in one of the spots with the highest population density in Europe.
