they are flat on one side because you set them down on something flat...
the only way that i can think of to fix this would be to make them a little harder before setting them to dry so that they don't take on the flat that they are set on...but this might make them not work.

you could bake them in ann egg carton (bad idea)
or you could make round-shaped tinfoil cups to be supportive. like press tinfoil into an egg carton and put the glands in there, then take the tin foil out and bake it.
will any sand work?
what about salt and flour ones? i can't find the recipe in the guides section.

mix flour and water and salt (approx 4 oz salt to 1lb flour should be fine) to a stiff dough, mould and dry. The salt is there simply to stop mould.
If you don't intend to keep the glandes around for weeks at a time, or don't mind them going a bit greeen - leave the salt out. The glande is far more enviromentally friendly without the salt.
Strong bread flour will make tougher glandes, but knead it longer.
As for the sand glandes, what are you moulding them with ?

You could place them in a Tbl spoon as a concave rest, or ceramic spoon rest.

Hi
As far as I know, you do not have to bake them. Put them out in the sun to bake and dry. If you want to bake them, that I am sure will be fine as well.

they don't need to be baked. they will dry plenty hard without baking (bit like chewing gum), mix in some sand for weight and you've sort of got primitive concrete :-)

How about adding flower seeds to the glands and that way when you sling them you could be planting flowers at the same time!

I am also interested in this. Maybe it's like rough clay?
