Do I need a Certificate?
May 15th, 2007 at 7:51am

Is there any experienced Swedish folks here who know if I need license or certificate to have and use a sling? I plan on test it against targets on a practising place for bows and crossbows.

grateful for answers!

I'll be really suprise if there is such a thing as a "licence to sling"!

If anyone question you, just say it is a rope!  What about the stone?  What stone? Grin

Heh Smiley that was a good one.

Actually there might be some outdated laws about a "projectile" waepon..
Just be careful and dont endanger anyone and you should be OK!

I think that most normal people think that sling is just a toy. And they just wouldn't believe it's power.

No, as far as I'm concerned there are no laws agains slinging in Sweden. I know some kinds of slingshots, however, are, I think it's those with arm support. They are considered too accurate and thus lethal.

it's not the accuracy of supported sling-shots that makes them lethal, it's the extra power you can get because of harder pull, that's made possible with an arm support.

in Croatian slings and slingshots have just one and the same word, so i techically might get into trouble.

(yeah right. especially considering i haven't slung anything for more than 6 months...)

the lake i used to sling at is now more and more popular, due to the nicer weather, and i still haven't gone to acctualy BUY pebbles. (as a construction material, or for decoration of gardens, ...)

then i might sling in the woods that are some 10 minutes of jogging from my house.

i'm just preocupied now with college and related stuff.

Hmm...we could make our own "license to sling":

The mentioned person was able to perform 100 throws in a row with a sling, where each shot had an offset of less than 45° from the intentional direction. The person should therefor be able to sling safely near spectators.

Hello

About a year ago if been searching laws in the Netherlands about licences or regulations for slings and slinging.
There's nothing.
So it's free and legal...
Cheesy
But hey, I can be wrong and might have overlooked something. So I'm carefull anyway.
Espessialy with the Palestines on tv almost dayly, assosiations with riot and war are easily made.
I guess over there and in Israel there's polecy about slings, but not here in Holland, so I beleave.
Good luck

I have read the online info about weapons in the Netherlands carefully and it states somewhere that a sling and stone (slinger en steen) is forbidden to carry around and/or use. And somewhere else there is said that it is forbidden to carry anything deadly in a posible zone of unrest.

So better not carry your stones in the same pocket as your sling, and if you sling stones, better not do it near a football field.

Hi!
I have searched info on the Police-website in Sweden, and you don´t need a permission ( licence) for "slangbåge" or bow.
That´s the closest I can come a sling.
Here you can read about it, it is in swedish:
http://www.police.se/static/fap/FAP551_3_RPSFS2002_9.pdf   Page 5

But, it is still not allowed to carry "dangerous weapon" on public places...
So I would recommend you not to sling in the store, the public park or when it´s alot of people around.

Yes, I seem to rememder that a it is fully legal to possess a regular bow and arrows, although you can't carry it around in public places (cities). A crossbow, however, is illegal to own if you do not have a licence for weapons.
