Hemp is evil weaving...
Apr 12th, 2007 at 5:07am

So i tried to weave a hemp sling cuz i couldnt find any linen twine(flax)
based on Matthias teaching under http://slinging.org/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1168848146/10#10
and it was just a mess (this is a gift to a friend) so i am going to instead make a leather pouch piece and then braid the hemp (this will be the second one I am making) the last one the attachment to the leather hand strap was horrible perhaps I could get some advice if i post the pathetic pics... I actually had a 25yr old eagle scout help me with the knots... but hes special so...

while braiding the cords never keep the two strings that go along "flat" - flip them every time you change the direction, just like you got some in the red circle, then your braid will be nice and round.
As for attaching the pouch the best way is to start braiding at it - that means pull 3 strings through hole in pouch and braid 6 strand cord. If you have started with the finger loop than pull all 6 through the hole and feed them one by one or in pairs back into the braid, few tucks should be enough. When doing this I like removing 1 string per each tuck (like 1st string goes 3 tucks, 2nd - 4, 3rd -5 and so on...) so it wouldn not look bulky when finished. Finish by tying overhand knots as close to the braid as possible and cutting off the leftovers (not too close to the knot, it may untie easily after some slinging)

A different set of instructions for the four strand round braid:

Dan,
I know that my instructions for doing the 4 strand round braid are the other way round from most others, but this way of braiding has always made more sense to me.
I am not even sure if I have ever seen it instructed this way or that I just turned the instructions round, I just know that I have been doing it this way almost as long as I did the round and square braiding.

But I am known to do most things different and to differ in opinion with the specialists and get their agreement that it works my way. (Not always better.)

I also believe that if there are 2 sets of instructions for any knot or braid and both are right as well as different, it is best to offer them both.
Since some people will pick up things one way, others will understand and remember an other way.
The best course in knots I ever heard about had three teachers, each using a different method of tying knots, and each student would ask each of them how to tie the knot and remember the way that worked best for that student. (A good thing they were volunteers, otherwise it would have been a very expensive course.)

About the missing link, it has been shown here before and while the site is adult with strange taste, the braiding instructions were not bad. For those curious and adult, google will have the link. Do not bother if you just want to braid, many better sites for that.

I sometimes search for where my own links end up, (that is how I got here,) and some did go to places I do not want to go myself. But as long as they link and do not want me to return the favour, I do not mind.
