slinging a tow hitch ball.
Mar 31st, 2007 at 9:16pm

I cut the ball off of a 2 inch tow hitch (like off of a truck) it is heavy and obviously solid I plan to throw it from my sling on my next outing, I will let you know how it works. any one else try anything along these lines?

Amen to the comment by Funslinger. I think you may be disappointed, because it probably won't go too far unless you are superman. There seems to be an optimum weight of projectile for every style and person, and the tow ball will probably be well over that optimum.

However you could perhaps try a staff sling. I have never used one myself but from what I have read, they work best with heavier ammunition.

tow hitch ball is usually between a squash ball and tennis ball in size - shouldn't weigh much more than a pound if that.
Shortish sling and some oomph should get it  afair distance :-)
I've slung rocks over a pound over a hundred yards.

Sidearm is probably best as it puts least stress on your shoulders and elbows.
Sling a decent sized rock within a wodland - what I call a brush cutter - goes through branches like they're not their. And for you eco nuts - mostly dead wood :-)

thanks for the advice still havent gotten to try it yet, but now I have 3 of them to play with. I wish they were smaller but I think that if I can work it out they will work fine, they only weigh about a pound or so but are very solid steel, could be fun I will keep you updated.

well I did it it didnt fly all that far or very fast however it sure did have a solid impact. I used an underhand throw from 20/25 feet into the side of a wooden storage unit on a friends property and it sounded like a gun shot when it hit.

sidearm it with feeling and then explain to your friend why there's a big hole in his shed :-)

Make a bola with tennisballs first, so you can learn to handle the bola before having to handle deadly one.

First shave your tennis ball - then any holes can be resealed :-)
