woven pouches
Mar 22nd, 2007 at 3:31pm

Hi!
I've just started to be curious about weaving pouches, so I made a simple weaving frame
and fooled around a bit..now, here's the result..the colorful one is woolen
and the other is made of the cheapest string available in our local shops..
but I found out that I like it more that the damn wool Smiley
have you tried weaving as well?
both slings seem to be working quite ok, if you have any comments or ideas, you are welcome Smiley

Nice! I guess I have never seen such a big hole in a pouch. Something new.

What did you use as frame? Until now I have only woven free-hand which might explain my lower results.

It was no plan to make such a big hole, it is caused because the wool was quite flexible and I pulled too hard [I guess you mean the red-green one]. and here's a photo of the frame - it's just a board with a few nails in it.

I like your loom/frame  Smiley ... I been making pouches with a loose warp and weft ... just holding the strands in my hand and loosly packing the weft every 3 or four courses

My last sling was loose warp/weft based on the multiple loop (5 loops)
sling-shank knotted sling recently in the forums.

Now that I see your method I'll have to do some loom weaving

I have woven with the cord already done tied to a table and the strings all tied to a stick, the stick to a belt round my back, or to the front of my jeans.
By leaning forward or backward you adjust the tension.
But I do like this rig!

Very nice loom and sling pouch, could you add a few more pictures to show us how the loom is properly used.
Thanks a bunch

Found this website on the net, maybe a pouch could be woven this way as well...

Let me know what you think.

Don,
I like string figures, but they are designed to disappear as soon as the tension is removed.
So I doubt that many of those will work.
You might be able to find one that is holding its shape long enough that you can tie the cords to it to fix it.
The rib-case comes to mind, but I am not interested enough to search through my string-figure books to find it.
