Thanks, I spread it out over three days so perhaps about 10 hours for the braided part and a few more hours to sew on the leather. It should last for a long time. Surprisingly, the nylon tassel degraded very quickly so I re-braided it with just sisal and it's now much better.

Nice. Since you know how to make these you can sling without worrying too much about the tassle as you can always repair it

So it's a desire of mine to make a Balearic sling like @WOTS, Jaegoor and Luis do, but since my skill and patience level is not yet up to it I decided to take an easier route. It's thus not a Balaeric sling but a regular split pouch sling. It's made of a nicely braided hemp rope (factory) sown and whipped with thin hemp cord. A matter of 30 minutes.

It slings super nice. And it has the traditional feel and smooth transitions of the Balearic sling I was looking for. It works way better than a simple sheep shank paracord sling. I don't recommend plain sheep shank slings if you use thick cords because the thick knots on the ends of the pouch would never make a good sling.

If you want a Balearic sling but you don't have the time or skills to make a proper one, I recommend going this route.

Jauke, I like it! Looks sturdy.

WOTS, that is a pretty balearic. When you made this, how much attention did you need to pay to keeping each individail strand twisted?

I have always had trouble when braiding to keep the braid from doing like a half or full rotation along its length. What is your method for keeping even tension on each strand to avoid twisting?

Very nice Jauke  Smiley
Bet that throws very well just from the looks of it.

Thanks Morph
It's a great thrower, one of the best slings I have right now.

I made another one out of paracord, nylon thread and couch leather, it's not the prettiest but it works really good. Much better than a plain noodle. The leather gives the pouch a nice stiffness.  It throws super efficient.

Edit:
I did a lot more slinging with it yesterday and today and am really starting to like it, it's such a snappy, responsive shooter and it's got a cute little whipcrack. The pouch is stiff enough to throw any good rock between 35g and 250g.  It will also throw golf, tennisballs and glandes. Pretty much all I require from a standard sling.

Nice braid. However, I recommend going to a flat pouch so good stones can roll out of the pouch more easily and get more consistent spin on release.  I also recommend round cords for better aerodynamics. Have you ever tried a split pouch design?

When I perform my release tests with cupped pouches they just don't release well
I recently had some more goes at slight cupping but after thinking more seriously about slings & how they work, I will never go back to a cupped design

My release test is just putting the projectile into the pouch and giving it a single (no rotation) underhand throw vertically upwards from my standing position (so watch out if you use rocks for this  Grin) You can really feel and see how the projectile is released and how it spins

+1, or at least a lot flatter. Too cupped and it can affect release, especially with less than perfect ammo.

Here is a rock man i made for a coworker who is moving out to Alaska.  Plus a few seatbelt slings. I am jealous of him, so the next best thing i could think of was have some slings i made in the state. I was just playing around with the jute cord after tge release knot and combed it out. Like it alit better.
