I don't know how all you great weavers out there keep everything so even, this is one of the best looking slings that I've made and it pales in comparison.
Also, what do most of you used for whipping on the release cord? When I've tried whipping, it usually falls apart after throwing for a while.

Kind words from a skilled weaver such as yourself.
I am pleased that I got to use some of my bark-tanned deer leather on the sling. It holds up pretty well so far.

Nice job IG!
For the whipping I use a needle and thick thread two wraps then sew through the cord, then two wraps and sew through on and on till you are done. It will never move or creep.

Jaegoor, your braiding and weaving work is absolutely stunning! I’m a new member, but I had just thumbed through this forum recently after making my first sling, and had seen quite a few examples of your work. This is an impressive sling!

IronGoober, that weave looks super tight. Makes my fingers ache just thinking about it. Looks great!

Certainly better than my attempts at weaving
I really should make some more slings...

Here is my first sling. I gotta say, I deliberated a great deal before I decided which kind to make. This is an Apache sling made with a 3 strand/6 strand flat-braided 2mm hemp line. Length: 26” (66 cm) pouch center to release knot/end of retention cord loop.
Weight: 1.2 oz. (34 g)
Not sure how that compares to other weights and lengths, but I made it to be about 2” off the ground when hanging straight down.
I really have enjoyed the inspiration of looking at all the slings here in this forum by the way. Y’all have been posting some amazing work throughout the years. I’ve had a lot of time on my hands to go back and look at those during this time.

...and I forgot to mention, the pouch was made from a stingray hide that I had found a good deal on years ago. Finally put it to good use.

That looks really amazing! Your first sling!? Mine was cheap paracord and a slingshot pouch
My first braided sling was old cotton string that was braided... badly.

Thanks so much, Kick!
Yeah, it’s my first one. It was kind of a combination of hobbies for me. I have too many hobbies. Haha! I had done some braiding before as a teenager making bracelets for friends out of hemp. Also, I’ve done leatherwork for about 8 years. I was lucky the two came together as well as it did. Been a long time since I’d braided.
I was originally going to use paracord as well, but I ended up finding 50 meter rolls of hemp online for about $0.90 and I decided I wanted it all to match. Lucky China has cheap prices on that stuff here.
I’ve seen your work on here too though. You’ve got some epic slings. I hope I can progress to that level in the future.

Thanks Morphy! I’m honored that you like it.
It’s a beautiful material to work with, but it is not easy on needles to sew. Haha!
I need to learn some weaving techniques from some of you all after I experiment with a few of the leather and braiding ideas I’m thinking about.
