@ Kick: This Y pouch is a bit tricky and does well only with small and dense missiles. I had better luck with my T pouch, but I gave it away... Should make another some day...

I had the opposite problem with mine. I started out with a T shape and it just wouldn't hold ammo at all.

@Kick
Yes. If I remember well, you were slinging ice balls, by this times.
For me, the trick was to put the ammo in the middle partof the T, like if it was a simple, flat pouch. The third branch (the foot of the T) wasn't realy involved in holding the stone. It only acted as the trigger. Therefore, I had to lenghten the release cord to avoid accidental "fire" during the stroke.
I haven't use captives for a while, but hope this will help in some way.
Sling well!

Ah ok I see. I think tennis balls are a better fit for the pouch I have on it now. I do really need to go and test it some more and see how it goes.

Just finished this one tonight. It's very similar to another I made, just shorter. It's made from linen with a leather pouch. The length is about 30.25 inches (77 cm). I hope to have a chance to give it a try tomorrow.

Thanks!
I usually refer to this as an 8-strand square braid, but I'm not sure if that is accurate or not. Here is a video of the technique being called a "herringbone braid".
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wvji-YqA9jo
I follow the basic pattern that a lot of tutorials use. Take 8 strands and start braiding in the middle to create the finger loop. Once there is enough braid for the loop, bring everything together and continue braiding. So the release and retention cords actually have 16 strands in them. But I'm still using the 8-strand technique, just with each strand doubled up.

Oh I like this one! Herringbones are good for tapering, also.

I keep intending to try one with a taper. It's not something I've ever used yet. But I always forget when I'm finishing the braid. I'll have to make sure I give it a try in one of the next few slings I make.

Never made a rockman before so gave it ago, made it way to light for normal use but it's good for throwing tennis balls with the kids. Tail is also to long in here and haven't completed whipping yet as went out to see how it threw first.
See if this photo works.
