This is a nine strand hemp balearic. Strings are 1mm diameter; 2 per strand in finger loop; 4 per in retention and pouch straps. Release cord has 72, tapering to one string on just 4 strands. This sling is 28" from pouch ctr to release; weighs just over 2 oz.

The cracker is attached like a cracker to a fall on a whip and can be replaced in less than a minute. If I make another one, i'll begin the release taper sooner; the last several inches down to six strings and reverse wrapped. That will cut a lot of bulk out of the hitch.

I'm leaving short pieces of the splices and dropped strings until i'm sure the sling is completely stretched out (no glue)

Here are three more slings that I made recently.

The first is a simple braided split-pouch sling made from tarred bank line, and the next two are rockman-style slings with release- and down-cords braided from bonded mason-line (and the pouches woven with tarred bank line).

This is so far my favorite sling I've made. While it's technically the second one I've made (as the first was lost in the sticks when my buddy let go of both ends...), it seems to work well enough for my skill level (or lack thereof).  Cheesy

Wow I need to check this forum thread more often there's a whole bunch of cool new posts..

Walter nice work. I know how hard that type of sling is to make so well done.

Jareth your slings look clean and flawless as usual.

Hubert your exploding fire projectiles are awesome. How do you make them and light them on fire? Is there a fuse you light? You should post this in the main forum.

AndSparksFlies nice lookin sling, soon you'll have a whole collection of slings I'm sure!  Wink

Made with a length of thick nylon clothes line. One knot serves as a toggle at the bottom of my fist, the other is the release knot. Mostly used for large jagged stones. Not good for distance, though.

That' s good Thearos! Nice to see you thought to make a simple sling. I had a similar idea. Mine is not a long distance sling either Grin

I like that sling [edit: I mean *your* sling, Walter]-- the material, the crudeness. My sing is so heavy it's almost an effort to dry-fire it (a practice which dear old Aussie used to discourage-- it gives had habits).

[Addendum— it does throw a heavy smasher of a stone, bigger than an egg but smaller than the fist, twenty to thirty paces, with respectable power and accuracy]

Great work! I have tested dozens of slings but I have been using a design very similar to the top one for the last couple years and I have yet to find one I like more!

I was pretty good at slinging like 10 years ago.
