You do very clean work Walter. I like it. Hey didn't you mention making a yucca sling from hand processed fiber?

Thanks Morphy! Yes, i've made five balearic slings and one "survival" sling out of yucca leaf fiber.  Truly an addicting pastime Smiley

I threw together two more slings.

The first is a black and white sling with a tut-style pouch. I used a flat-braid on the down-cord and a round-braid on the release.

The second sling uses a spiral kumihimo-style braid (still using the handheld kumihimo disk instead of a marudai bench. Sigh.)  I'm becoming very fond of the color combination of black tarred bank line with the orange/gold/black bonded, braided mason line!

Walter,

Thanks!

Everyone knows that stones fly further if thrown from a sling braided in bitchin' colors. If I could find an equivalent to bonded, braided mason line in hot-rod red, I could launch stones into space! It's SCIENCE!

Or, um, not. But still, I'm having fun.

Thanks again!

Oh, hey, I threw together a couple more Tutankhamun-style slings this week.

The top two are made from jute; the first was the Tut-style sling that I documented in my youtube video, the second was an experiment with fewer warps in the loom to make a shallower (but also narrower) pouch.

The third sling has the same narrow pouch as the second, but is made from bonded, braided mason line and braided tarred bank line. This one may end up being my personal sling for a while.

Finally, I was inspired by one of Timothy Potter's recommendations on another thread...the pouch on the last sling is broad but has a shallow cup. I just finished that one this morning and haven't had a chance to test it out outdoors yet (it's wet outside).

A buddy filmed me slinging at the driving range this afternoon, just thought I'd share!  Smiley My best shot was a little over 200 yards.

I finally made a properly sized and tightly woven Tutankhamen sling, I'm really happy with how this turned out, it's made of wool/ tarred bank line Grin

That came out really nice! I've never tried making any slings that mix synthetic and natural fibers before.

Thanks guys, Jareth this is actually one of my first combos, i like the feel of the wool in hand but its durability isn't enough so that's why i picked to tarred bank line. The pattern or rather lack of pattern was actually made by just having two different colored strands mixed in with my blue wool and then just simply using a twist braid for the cords. it's probably one of my favorite simple yet cool looking patterns. Today i had a nice day, of course it had some slinging in it Wink
I was aiming at the pipe and had one indirect hit and 1 hit just at the point where it comes out the ground. Shot about 30-40 stones.
