use the 5 strand braid.
So much better.
10 strands, in 5 cords braided, then for the pouch splice in an additional 10 strands, for a total of 20, which divides so that each side of the pouch is 10.
then bring back together 4-5" later, braid with all 20 in groups of 2 with the same method as 5, but with 10, and 6-7" after the pouch comes back together start thinning it back down to 10, and 4" from the end of the sling bring it down to 5.
Or just read Donnerstag's balaeric tutorial...

From the Irish National Gallery
David and Goliath, by Orazio Gentileschi 1605-1607
Note the netted pouch on the sling.
Sorry, I'm still jet lagged.

On my summer trip to Guam this year I had an opportunity to see a private collection of native crafts. One item of interest was a reproduction sling. Looking closely, I don't think the craftsman was a slinger although the stone is an ancient artifact.

I took a second shot from the other side of the display case. This picture gives a better view of the pouch. The owner of the small museum in Inalahan didn't know what the sling was made from and I'm guesing it's from coconut fiber. My opinion is that if it is coconut fiber it is fiber from a young coconut.

Here is my second attempt at a Apache sling. It's not the prettiest, but I find it doesn't hold on to smaller stones. Smiley

My new sling sort of reminescent of a Native-American/Meso-American/York sling. I was in the mood for practicing overhand casts without the risk of thrashing braided release cords and such, so slings with easily-replaced cords are sort of trending in my EDC sling pocket now, lol. It's also nice to not have to worry about my raw denim jeans staining my favorite cotton sling indigo. Grin
This one's made of an off-cut of elk hide and reverse-twisted jute twine. I didn't have any of the usual tools this time around, so I sort of had to chew it into shape with flimsy scissors and toenail clippers.  Tongue
