I have mostly used smooth ammo and have had no issues with the gaps, but some more duct tape can easily be used to cover them if there is issues.
Slings like this are quiet, no cracks.  Fine when I dont want people to wonder what I`m doing  Smiley

A waist pouch for ammunition.
This work is a follow-up from the ammunition pouch I've recently shown. A prehistoric technique combined with modern age recycling.
I worked more tightly, used finer materials and improved the shape.
It has a capacity of about ten 150 g clay glandes or 4 tennis balls.

Capacity: about 10  150 g clay glandes
Length of rope: 110 cm
Diameter of pouch: 11 cm
Depth of pouch: 16 cm
Materials: "T-shirt yarn" from T-shirts and curtains, strong seewing thread.
Techniques: "Wulsthalbflechten" (German expression), 6 strand round braid.

By the way: The colours are white and brown. It looks a bit pinkish because I took the picture at sunset.

You could buy the pouch and analyze it!  Wink

No, I admit, I'm a bad salesman.

I work completely free-handed without patterns or instructions. But I can give you a short introduction to the technique:

I appended a small sketch of the technique "Wulsthalbflechten". You need a thin (blue) and a thick (red) material. With the thick material you work in coils, with the thin material you fasten one coil to the previous one. There are many different "stitches" to do this. I showed two of more than ten possibilities in the sketch. Eventually you will need a needle to do this. If you place the next coil in the same plane as the previous one you get broader, if you place it on top of the last coil you will keep the diameter. When you get broader you will have to add stitches out of order to keep the stitches close enough.

Did this help you?

Woke up this morning and caught the headlines.

An Australian was a suicide bomber in Iraq, Israel has decided to conduct a ground offensive in Gaza, and the Russian separatists have downed a passenger flight in rebel-held eastern Ukraine killing 27 Aussies and other nationalities.

The world is going to hell in a hand basket.

Kava, I couldn't agree more. My generation is going to have an interesting life.
Anyway, note that they tend to use longer slings than most of us here, probably cause they
1. aren't super interested in accuracy
2. don't have great ammo
3. probably have lots of practice already
4. only want range/power

Longer slings can substantially increase power. 3" of length is the difference between puncturing 1/2 inch plywood or not puncturing it.
