Very nice postings, guys.

My newest slings, all of them tested in my new slinging site (see: http://slinging.org/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1389365336/0).

Top picture: a variant of my best sling, but with flat braided jute cords.

The 2nd and 3rd from top are modified slings adapted to my new slinging place. Especially the cradle sling is very powerful for distance (120 cm, = about 4 ft) or tree-branch-explosion (impressive sound) shots. The accuracy and safety against loosing ammo are great, although I must say that my accuracy improved in general. Because in the new slinging place there are no people like at the lake I can concentrate more on slinging and not watching for walkers. Therefore my throws are more accurate now.

The last sling has no big attachment knots or whipping at the retention cord near the pouch or the loop. Braiding was started from the loop (8 strand flat), thereafter strands were joined, short strands tapered out, then I continued with a 4(x2) strand round braid. Some inches before the pouch the strands continued unbraided, were then attached to the pouch by Pikaru´s method in two points and braided back around the loose-strand core as a 8-, then 6-, then 4-strand round braid (tapered strands were hidden in the core). At the end I used only two strands that were braided by alternating whipping around the core and fixed by a small, nearly invisible knot.

Compound sling
110cm long. Paracord retention cord, automatic release after manual release of the pouch.
Retention toggle.
About 200 grams of booster weight with the winch included.

I've tried it with 50-150gram ammo and it performs about 70-80% of a traditional 110cm sling. Plus the complexity of handling it, plus more tangling..I've pretty much lost interest in it.

I whipped up an ammo bag this evening out of an old pair of canvas shorts and an SKS rifle sling which makes up the shoulder strap.

The sewing maching by the way belonged to my great grandmother and I've had it since the mid 70's. Over the years this machine has helped me make and repair so much outdoor gear.

Clever bag Pik, the pocket would hold a sling nicely.

Also I really like the multicolored split pouch

Nice, sturdy bag Pik!  I like it!
I was thinking about making one with a "reinforced" opening so it always stays wide open to allow quick picking ammo from it.
I have my sturdy messenger bag, it's just sort of annoying to have to scavange trough it, to get a stone out.

Thanks. I reinforced the bottom to keep it flat and have a stiffner at the top to keep it open. I'm going to hit the second hand clothing store to find pants to make a couple more. I've been looking for a messenger bag, maybe I'll just make one.

I finished two horsehair slings today. Both are split pouch and incorporate thin, soft buckskin.

The horsehair is from Mongolian Ponies. What's interesting about this type of horsehair is that it is much softer and thinner than American breeds which made for a very fluid sling.

I've played with horsehair before and found it to be too stiff to suit my taste and style. This hair however turned out a great sling. I have enough hair to make a few more slings.

Cool! Looks fine, like some natural plant fiber.
Once i've braided a release cord from horse hair. It didn't held up to the expectations, regarding durability against abrasive stones.

A coworker gave me the material and asked me to make them for he and his son. I tried talking him into something more durable plus the hair has to be some thirty plus years old but that's what he wanted so that's why from a durability standpoint the slings are so thick. Initially I had my doubts on the thickness thinking they'd be too stiff but the hair is almost humanlike and the cords are not stiff at all. The jury is still out on long-term durability but they throw great and are unique.

I see. It's interesting how much different it is to the horse hair i've worked with. The ~4mm (1/6 ") cord i've done was stiff, almost like a electric cable of the same dimensions.

Here is the same sling with a closer shot to see the detail of the pouch, anchor loop and release cord. For the release cord I wove a tight release tab of sorts, hoping it would eliminate or at least delay the end of the sling from coming apart after repeated throws. My prototype is working well so far but in the end I don't think horsehair will rank high on long term durability scale.
