I braided up another Mexican woven pouch sling:

It is as long as my arm and perfect for golfball sized stones.

How'd you go about weaving that patch between the split?

Here is my first 24-strander, Made with Peruvian Palma braid.  It`s made like my previous sling, the 16-strander, with a knitted sewn-in pouch, release cord switched into 4-strand braid for the tapering of the release cord toward the Double Mathew Walker release knot.  28".
I have been working on and off with this sling for a long time, those who can be bothered can look bak to page 150, january 16, to see this sling when it was a few inches long.

And here.
Guess next week I`ll have to begin a new 24-strand sling, now with the Margarita braid.
I vividly remember a time when I clearly stated I would never attempt making this kind of multi-stand slings  Smiley

Great job timman, looks like you spent a lot of time making it. How much yarn did it take?

Thanks.  12 lenghts of 4.5 - 5 meters = max 60 meters, that was plenty long enough.  It is stretched out during braiding.
A bit for knitting the pouch, just a small amount out of a ball of yarn. .  A few meters for whipping, I just doubled the yarn.

Beautiful, timann. It sounds like the 16 and 24-strand braids are not well-suited to tapering. Is that correct? Because of the look of the pattern, or the physical structure?

Its because of the structure. A 24 strand braid must be made with 24 strands and cannot be modified in any way. To taper you would need to remove a whole strand and that would make it a 23 strand braid. And if there is one, it would be completely different from the 24 strand braid.

All of the Andean/Tibetan up-braids are actually square, so you would need a minimum of four strands to make one. I don't think it would be possible o make one with odd numbers of strands...

Timann thats a nice sling BTW, I really like your pouch Smiley

Nope, no 23-strand braids Wink
In this kind of sling making I do a good amount of learning as I go, and I considered several ways of tapering the ting down.  For some time I considered hiding away the red strands and continue for some time with 16-strand braid before the 4-strand braid.  I decided against, it would not add all that much to the overall look of the sling, it would be a little complicated to secure those highly visible red strands over a very short distance and not risk them working their way out or back, and I was turning a bit impatient and wanted to finnish the darn thing off, it has been laying about, and been my nemesis and bad concience, since Christmas.

I like those pouches myself, I have knitted them from wool yarn and 1,2 mm flax twine, both work fine and is surprisingly wear resistant.  In effect it works like an Apache pouch or very fine meshed netted pouch.  At first I was seriously in doubt of how well they would work, and last,  but in use they are very functional and resillient.

Seem like you got a fine spot for tennis ball slinging.  Fine style.  And let`s not forget the accuracy.  Which was very good Smiley
