when i look at the stones flying out, it reminds me of a bolas- the rocks seem to spin around each other, or at least stay aligned.

Smiley Thank you!

Jeffrey, that's an interesting thought, but I must confess that I personally am no great friend of the pirouette. It looks cool and is a fine piece of acrobatics, but I think there are better ways to add power to a throw. To be honest, my shots in the vid are actually quite lousy and could have been performed much better Lips Sealed.  I blame it on the temperature. And the stage fright.  Wink.

Awesome slings and video Fundi. Does it add a lot of pull on your arm?

Thanks!

It is less pull than I had expected, actually. Yet I think I still put too much "arm power" into the throws when the energy should mainly come from the body tension and coordination. That's what I meant by "bad throws" in the vid.

fundi is right, the strength may not come from the arm. The strength comes by movement of the hip. If one does this properly, the hip takes then arm with forwards.

I dont know if that works or not but its my attempt at makign a sling from plastic bags. worked out suprisingly well so far. Release knot is small, but it gets tej job done. I was slinging walnuts, and they went flying.

That red baron sling is awesome.

Wow, that is a really cool sling design!  It looks like it is working pretty well and when thrown using an overhead style it is throwing the stones in a line, not scattered, great for combat I would suppose.   I would really love to see a close up slo-mo so I can see how the stones are behaving in flight, whether they are bumping into each other, etc.  I would also love to see some accuracy shooting!
Thanks so much for the vid, I will have to try making my own RED BARON!!

For variety, here is some of my user slings.  The 28" jute Apache sling is used a lot by my son and I, I made it with a release knot followed by a finnishing Wall knot.  It has been worn through the finnishing knot and and through a new knot which I made, and is now slowly wearing through the remaining tassel toward the release knot.  But that one is a Double Mathew Walker knot which will be resilient when the time comes.
Above is the 28" hemp split pouch which I mostly use now,  Its remining tassel is just a small brush, soon I`ll probably have to reknot the finnishing knot on this one.
Below is a 40" hemp split pouch, my favorite long sling now.
And last is a 28" split pouch made from polyester silk, it`s a permanent part of my running gear and is used almost every morning for my accuracy practice.
It may not look like much but it`s great Smiley

I like how the pouch overlaps the braided portions of the pouch. Do you stitch the leather pouch on first, then trim to shape?

No, I do a whole lot measuring and educated guessing to get the size right, next I make the holes with a thin awl reasonably close to the rim of the leather, then I stitch it on.  In fact it takes a good bit of time to get it as nice as I demand from myself.
