Pictures of Slings and Slinging
Feb 20th, 2007 at 7:23pm

Hi,
This is a place to post all photos of your slings or you slinging. If this thread begins to get a lot of photos, and there isn't much chat, I'll make it sticky. I know there was some excitement over this idea, and I personally think it's a good one, so here's your chance to make it happen. Feel free to post pictures in here  that you've already posted on this site before.
Have Fun,
CanDo

An UPDATE:

PLEASE resize your images so that they'll fit (about 8" wide). If you'd like to show the image in full, just include a link. This keeps everything neat, and visible. If you have any questions PM me. Thanks.

Oh and feel free to make some notes about your photos or give a link to other places on the site where you've posted them before for anyone who might want more information or a place to discuss. Great pictures thus far! Smiley

Willeke, suggested that I post this shot of my avatar here. I can't zoom in tight enough on the sling due to grainyness, (scanned photo), but, its made of nylon chalk-line, hand-plaited 8 strand with woven split pouch, 1.626m total length. Braided finger loop and double Mathew Walker at the bitter end.

Just finishing a fig. 8 at a stray dog, dumping on a neighbor's lawn. (Dog is safe and contented; no windows broken).

Very nice job on your first sling, Can you explain to us how you did it?, the pouch area looks really cool.
I would like to make one just like it.

My First Sling.

...
...

The center stitch there attaches a reinforcing strip, which seems to help. All three strands braided at each end, finger loop made simply. Pouch made of old leather CD case cut up, cord is Hemp, with a bit of black duct tape reinforcing the stress points where cord leaves pouch on each side, all found around the house. Slings sizes from Golf Ball ~ish up to half a brick or so if I'm ambitious.  I like that it's rather primitive, and has a worn look to it for good reason. Smiley

Here's an alternate method of tieing a sheepshank sling. Normally, you would form an "S" in the bight of a line, throw on a half-hitch at each small bight of the "S", then tuck the working ends through the bights, transforming into 2 bowlines, making it a "locked" sheepshank.

My way uses an extra bight, or 2 "S's" stacked, allowing for quick weave through the 5 cradle lines...I can report that it's great for throwing apples & oranges...or, tie a couple of constrictor knots inboard of the bowlines to adjust for size of projectile.
