Slinging from boats
Feb 12th, 2007 at 6:31am

inspired by unsapiens return (nope I never heard of him either ;-) I was wondering if the problem of slinging from boats is the lack of readily available ammo.

So how's about ideas for stuff to sling from boats that you can find on the boat and that isn't actually essential to the safe running of said boat :-)

Can't think of anything that isn't food myself.

Lead fishing weights comes to mind. Extra nuts and bolts of various size.  Water balloons. An Octopus!!! Grin

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

right but people will probably want both the nuts and bolts and the fishing weights.
octopus ? lol

actually how about sea water ice cubes :-) 'course that would presuppose that you had a freezer on the boat. or were in the arctic/antarctic

Put a weight on the end of some long fishing line, tie the other end to the boat, grab the line 50 cm away from the weight and use it as a sling. Once you have thrown it you can pull it back on board. But depending on the slinging style you use you might entangle yourself in the line...

Dravonk's solution is very much like a cuban hand reel. I often use mine in a slinging style http://www.palmbaybaitandtackle.com/products/cubanyoyo.htm

Well I suppose I didn't post enough for anyone to remember me  Embarrassed

In any case, Water balloons are the name of the game if your gonna sling from a boats.
If your going to sling from a sailboat, I strongly discourage anyone from slinging rocks, nuts, bolts or anything hard as there is simply not enough room to do it safely. The chances od damaging someone or something on the boat too great. (I generally don't like holes in my sails)

Well off to class

Take care

Poor, poor jellyfish. Cry You have got a freezer on board? And Unsapiens point was not to sling anything that could be dangerous to your sails. I guess ice hitting your sail can damage it.

I'd sling a box jellyfish; unfrozen! Smiley

freezing and slinging probably wouldn't kill them anyway :-)

Guilty as charged  Roll Eyes

If you really want to toss water around use latex ballons, apparently they degrade well. Can't say much for preventing wildlife from eating them though  Undecided
