find your glands (sling tracers)
Jan 24th, 2007 at 3:01pm

Lol I have come up with a system for locating my lead glans i use a stationary chain saw file to put a groove in the mddle of my 6 ounce lead egg sinkers then I tie 12 inches of 1/4 inch yellow ribbon to sinker and wrapp it around the groove. I knot on end stick the un-knotted end though the hole in the sinker pull tight up to the knot tie another knot right at the end of the sinker. then wrap the remaining ten inhces around the glan. in flight te ribbn comes undone and become like a sling bullet tracer. Works
great for me. It also solved a mystery. I often find just the ribbon sticking out of the ground. with a tug out pops my bullet. A.K.A the mystery of the dispearing sling bullet. a lot of them were sinking into the soil

Great idea! Been mentioned before I think, but sounds as though you've perfected it. This must certainly look very cool.

Thats a great idea! I love you!

Ahem. Platonic 'n' all. Wink  Grin

Now I can figure out where my fluero pink/green tennis balls mysteriously dissappear to. There's gotta be some little giggling kid hiding in the bushes waiting to nick them, honestly...

Do you find the ribbon creates much more wind drag?

well the ribbon could be acting like a flight, keeping the shot in the right orientation. good idea :-)

Is that the mentality behind arrow fletching?

yep - keeps it straight in flight, also some fletching deliberately rotates the arrow which also helps keep it straight.

As soon as I read your post, Lobo, I ran out to the local Walmart and purchased two boxes of 2oz. bank sinkers and two boxes of 2oz. slip (egg) sinkers and a small spool of 1/2" wide, bright yellow, seam edging.  (Sorry, no pics).

The bank sinkers were 6 to a box @ $1.76 usd.
The slip (egg) sinkers were 4 to a box--same price.
Seam edging = $1.27 usd.

First blush:  A lot easier to find than golf balls in the rough.
