My more up-to-date video.  Long slings rocks!

Tint my friend,

I watched the video all at 56kBps. Wow your long sling really is huge. The speed must be enormous but how is your accuracy with it?

Using the Pirouette style, long slings can be quite accurate.  I think that is due to the slower angle change of the bigger circular path of the pouch and the use of larger muscle group.

Thanks for watching my video! Smiley

How many pouches have you given away so far?

Aussieslinger,
I just finished making the final version of my new sling made with the pouch you sent me. The cords are made from beeswaxed Kevlar in a simple three string braid and are 94cm in length. (That makes the sling 1.2m long from the tip of the retention loop to the middle of the pouch.) I just tried it in the backyard throwing a tennis ball at my fence. It works great, but I only got three throws in before I threw over the fence and the tennis ball went missing in action.
I think this is going to be my new favorite sling.
Thanks again.
Here is a picture of the sling, I have more but can't figure out how to post more than one photo per post.

Hi Lupis,

Thanks very much for taking the trouble to post the picture. I understand entirely about the missing tennis balls. I send my 13 yo daughter to retrieve mine from my neighbours yard; less embarrassing than getting them myself.

Is there an advantage in using braided cord? I normally just use standard braided motor mower pull start line from the hardware. Nice to know that the pouch works well with longer cords than I use as well. My preference is for 65 - 70cm folded length. Tint has attached his pouch to 5' long cords and is happy with the results.

Good slinging

lupis how come you've used two different attachment methods for the cords ?

Because I cannot figure out how to braid a loop into both ends of something I braid. So for the retention cord I braid my finger loop into one end and then tie off the loose end, for the release cord I braid a little loop to attach to the pouch in one end and put a release knot into the other end.
If you know of any tutorials that could show me how to braid double loops I would really appreciate it.

Aussieslinger
I wanted to use Kevlar because it sounded neat and I could not get any sort of Kevlar cord. Also I just kinda like how braided cord looks. I also like the feeling that this thing (whatever I make) was made by my efforts, some of it was anyway...

Sorry about the size of the picture, I am going to shrink the size on any other I post.
Lastly, can anybody point me to instructions on how to post more than one photo per post? I had other pics I wanted to include but couldn't figure that out either...

Anyway, Aussieslinger I think I have enough thread left to braid a couple more cords if you want to try them, what length do you prefer?

Lupis,
If you click on how to post large files it tells you how to send your photos to Chris and how to use them in your posts later on, you can also use this info if you host your photos in an other place, use the url inbetween the img tags.
If you do not have access to a website and do not want to wait till Chris has you photos returned, just make a post per photo.

The best way is to upload pics to free hosts like photobucket.com or anything you like and link them with [img ]pic url[/img]

If you post your pictures on photobucket, send them to Chris as well, and change the links when the new url's come in, otherwise the photos will go dead after a few months.
