dravonk, cant you swim?  Grin
too bad you lost em.

I can swim but in the northern hemisphere February means winter so I had no bathing trunks and no towel with me (even though the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy told me to do so!). Wink

The lake is a water supply dam and because of a pollution they lowered the water level. But the water level is rising again and in a few weeks my slinging place will be underwater. The sling would be about two or three meters under water by that time.

In the hope that others can learn from my mistake I will try to describe it.

On the Balearic instructions they say you should throw with a sling like you were throwing a stone and had no sling in your hand. Of course you would open your hand in such a movement. The instructions illustrate that:

...

That works fine with all the throwing styles I did so far. But not with the backhand throw: then the retention loop got pulled off my finger. So I learned the hard way that with the backhand throw you have to make sure that you do not open the finger with the retention loop on it.

After I gave up fishing for the lost sling I took my braided sling out and did some more backhand throws. They all worked and I still have that sling.

The fingerloop on my slings are mostly big enough for 2 or 3 fingers, but I almost always just use it on one.
But I seem to have learned to keep the finger with the sling and the next one close together when I open my hand in slinging.
But last time on the beach I had a one string sling, (with a locked bowline pouch,) that fitted the ball real well, no lost balls, but in what was planned to be the last throw the ball took the sling with it.
About 90o away from where I wanted it to go, but both wanted and real destiny where inland. (I was slinging on the beach.) So I had to sling once more to reach my aimed point, more or less that is.

I always use adjustable retention loop. It's very secured, but have to loosen and retighten from time to time to allow blood flow of the finger. Smiley

Hmm...I like to use rocks of all sizes and when I get to slinging rocks (only once per week) I do it for at least two hours. I am afraid that might hurt when the retention loop pulls close around my finger.

Yes, I am afraid they will. I just wonder what they must have thought when they saw it. Aussieslinger mentioned in his letter that it is for a sling but did they know what "sling" means? And I cannot imagine them reading every letter they check. So they probably just saw some weird rubber thing.

They opened the letter in a weird way, they did not open it at the top, but they cut the sides open.

The straps used to carry something (like gun) or the ones used for lifting are also called slings...

Yes, but that wouldn't fit to the object in the letter at all, would it?

Oops, sorry, I did not intend to insult you. Wink Although we who read this forum probably don't consider being weird an insult at all. Cool Is there an advantage from opening letters at the side? By the way, they cut both sides open.

I think the pouch can be disguised as a kind of decoration for clothing. Grin Roll Eyes

Here, I'm sure the customs won't know what a sling is! Grin
