Favourite sling
Dec 12th, 2006 at 7:04pm

Hi everyone,
Sorry if this seems a bit like a repetition of Lupis' first sling poll. I'm new to this site and wondering what type of sling people prefer considering how difficult/ time consuming it is to make, and how well it works.  Huh  Huh  Huh

My favourite is made with nylon cords and duct tape following Zorro's instructions.

It's doesn't take ong to make one at all and the result is great.

My favorite and the one I carry all the time is the one I made from medical tape and cord based on the design posted by Zorro. Smiley

Yeah, a lot of people say the duct tape ones work very well. I made a sling that was basically one of these, minus the duct tape Roll Eyes, because I didn't have any. How does the pouch fold around the projectile? I'm imagining it crinkling up, or folding around it in a way that means the ball or whatever rolls out the side. Is it the shape of the cord through the tape that keeps something in?

My favorite sling is braided with a woven split pouch, 21 inches long.

I currently  use a six strand braided sling made from normal cotton twine. I'll probably try making a medical/ duct tape sling soon. Perhaps a braided sling with tape pouch would work. I'm yanking this thread off topic already, it seems.  Embarrassed  Embarrassed

With the medical tape sling, the ridge formed by the cord seems to help keep the projectile in place until release.

I voted for woven, but it should have been woven with braided cords. The string used in the braids is used in the pouch and I only added one more string (the weft.)

And such pretty colours!

Slings are so diverse that it's hard to cover all the bases... My current one is this knitted verion (the replacement, thanks to Willeke):

...

To my knowledge only a handful of slingers that have ever used one...

Indeed a nice kind of sling, but maybe more than a few have tried it. (I took some to the now famous slingmeet in Antwerp, and send one of those to Tint too.)

If you want to make one, here is a link to the instructions: http://slinging.org/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1089409452/0
