I got to go camping this past week (up north of course, which is quite nice since i live in Az and camping down here is always hot) anyway...
The camping was fun and we ran found out before we went that some of our friends would also be camping in the same area! so i figured it as a chance for some
slinging!!! So I loaded up 5 slings 2 of my apache style slings, 2 woven slings (one of which compliments of Roy) and the sling from Chris. (a bit shorter than the rest and good for beginners)
The first day we were there we headed down to the man made lake (again this is Az so you cant expect much) and there were some people fishing (none in boats) so i commenced slinging stones which made it look like the fish were jumping on the other side of the lake (the lake was about 300 yards across and i was easily reaching 3/4 of the way if not more (around 200-250 yards) IT was great!!!!
My little brother also brought along his wrist rocket sling shot thingy...and they shot that a bit (I still showed em up on that...LOL) but everytime i launched a stone everyone was in total awww!!
Eventually they became interested in learning how to sling. my little brother and his friend (Both 13) knew a little about slinging so i let the friend try. He used an underhand throw which ended up being disasterous... right in front of us were some row boats you could rent and on one of his throws he released too early and WHAM CLANG POW (whatever sound) echoed across the lake...lol not good...so the next time we went slinging we went to a more remote spot in the forest.
This time the older friend (15) wanted to learn to sling.
I started him off with the shorter of all the slings and he picked it up quite fast (the problem was he plays tennis so he is used to a follow through...) On one of his throws with a longer sling (with me standing about 20 yards to his left) he released to late and the rock about the size of a golf ball went whizzing over my head and if i hadnt ducked and had been a half of inch taller...id have had my head taken off...
I now have a sense of what those who went into battle against slings felt like!
And I urge everyone to be careful out there! Especially with someone totally new at slinging...
Other than that have fun slinging!!!
