Reply #17 - Oct 6^th, 2006 at 12:09pm i got my deer hide in a trade with roy. i supposed if you know anyone that hunts, you could ask them for the hide. alot of hunters will just keep the meat and the head, and toss the hide. if you are lucky, they will even tan it for you.

I used the

Prusik knot

to keep the string from sliding while slinging.

ALtay, I may try your knot! I just used a slipknot for mine but I had problems with it slipping before.

I tied them really really tight though, its just vinyl chord but when you tie a knot, it gets tied, I mean tight. My first sling I couldnt undo the knots to fix it and had to cut it off.

Adjustable pouches?
I had the idea to make a drawstring pouch so I could use a sling interchangeably as a flail of sorts. How would I do that?

Im not sure where the leather in my house came from, no one remembers, haha.

i think i know what you mean about the drawstring pouch. you would just lace a string around the perimeter of the pouch, and perhaps tie little knots in the ends so they would not come out. then to tie it, you would pull the strings tight and tie them somehow, and the edges of the pouch would sinch up around the stone and the stone would be unable to fall out. i can see it in my head. any one want to make a prototype?
