I think for only doing this for a day it is going o.k. Grin I made several slings to try and they all seem to work fine. Can not hit anything yet, but am having a blast trying! I made two for tennis balls, one for my nine year old son. He still has all his tennis balls, but mine are distibuted all around our neighborhood( trying to learn the underhand!) Will post pics as soon as my wife comes back, the camera is in her car. The design is
the simple string sling by Malik Lund. I wove some string into the pouch so I could try to sling more than one stone. I am lucky I live in an area that has river rock everywhere also I have a river about 1/4 mile from my house. As far as the name, I swear I am not a serial killer or anything, (but then if I were would I really tell you, ha , ha ) It was the name given to a two handed cleaver I own, by my son when he was younger. When I brought it home I was with some friends checking it out and I said it would cut through bone better than an axe, my son heard and started calling it the boneaxe! So that is where it comes from! Bladed weapons are my main hobby. I swing freestlye balisong knives and am really into khukri knives. I love to collect all types though.

i think you will find a surprising number of other blade-lovers here.

i myself like blunt weapons more, or axes.

wellcome, btw Tongue (oh oh, where are my manners)

and please take time to read trough the sling safely article, and some alarming stories here on the forum.
(because of the under-age son, that is)

with that i wish you good luck in having fun with this hobby/sport/obsession. (you have been warned Tongue )

sling bullets.

here:

We have before remarked, that towards the close of the fifth century plummets or leaden bullets began to supersede the ancient sling-stones. The name given to these missiles by the Romans 'glandes', "acorns." This latter name was derived from their shape, which very nearly resembles that of the acorn, the olive, or the almond, and was calculated to experience a comparatively slight resistance from the atmosphere. Stores of these pellets of sling-bullets were kept in the arsenals for future use: sometimes, however, the metal was fused and bullets cast in the camp when an engagement was already impending as was the case in Caesar's African war, B. C. 46. The bullets were generally ornamented with some device, such as a thunderbolt, a star, or an arrow-head, or with characters, or merely a monogram or single letter. The characters appear generally to have read from the smaller end to the larger, where they are often defaced in consequence of the collision of the bullet with some hard object.

(i edited the passage to take out the stuff that leaves a person wondering where the point of it is)

Glans is single, Glandes is plural.
