since this is post # 1000 for me, i wanted to do something special.

The Monkey Chain Knot Sling

one day when i was sitting in the car playing with some string, the idea occured to me: why not make a sling using the monkey chain knot?  so i played around with the idea, and here is the result:

well, first you need to figure out how long you want the final sling from the end of the finger loop to the end of the release cord.  now multiply this by four, and that is how long your string needs to be for this sling.

double up the string and find the half way point.  now mark about 5 inches on each side of the center line.



now you start the first loop at one of the marks, and MC to the other loop, but remember this: look at where the chain ensd, not where the loop lands on the string.  once the finger loop is done, go to the next step


this is probably the trickiest part of the whole thing.  now you double over the finger loop so that the two ends of the chain are next to eachother.  now take the loop and put the two strings into the loop instead of just the one.  this  is hard because in order to make the next loop (a double by the way) you have to keep the loops the same size


now keep going with the MC until you reach the point where you want to start the pocket



now seperate the loops and figure out which loop goes with which string


start with the MC again, but with a single strand.  the nice thing about the MC is that unlike a braid, it will not come undone if you put it down for a minute


now finish the pouch to where you want it to be


double up the loops and start up the MC until the sling is completed.  then at the end to lock it into place, just pull the end of the string through the last loop and pull it tight.  then the only way to undo the knot is to pry the last loop open and tug out the string.

and just like a braided sling, you can add more strands for a thicker sling.

actaully, it only takes me about 10-15 minutes because of the speed version i learned when a child.  i grip the long cord under my toe or in some sort of device, and apply a little bit of tension, and i use a sliding motion to very quickly complete a long chain.  it's kindof complex to understand without a video, which i was going to make, but my digital camera died and my movie camera can't import videos into the computer(but luckily it can still import still images)

about doing something special for my 1000'th post, it was tint's idea.  he mentioned wanting to do something special to be godly, but since i missed my chance there, i waited for number 1000

well this is what i did for one of my finger loops when i was using skinny string...and then i just ended the knot and that was that.

but a braid... ???
