What I am looking for is a good projectile for doing demos. Golf balls are the obvious choice, but they get to be expensive. Stones are cheap, but hard to see in flight.
What would be perfect is a cheap, visible projectile that is biodegradable, or environmentally friendly. Any ideas?? ???

Water balloons. I'm telling ya, people love to see'em vaporize on a target! So, they're not bio degradable, but the envrionmental impact is minimal compared to the visual impact you'll be making on your audience.

Spraypaint the stones bright orange, and people won't have a hard time seeing them. Cheapest way out I think

Instead of spray painting something orange, why not just use ORANGES; they are already orange (
) therefore high visibility, they are about the right size, and they are certainly biodegradable!

I'd suggest frozen eggs or hardboiled eggs, eggs are pretty cheap around here, under a dollar a dozen.

well i bet the biodegradable ones break down faster, seeing as how plastics don't break down naturally like other materials

Might even be worth betting that they
are
the regular kind... They are just latex (natural rubber, for the most part) and it breaks down pretty quickly (uv helps). Heck the stuff is edible (don't try this at home).
But if you
sell
them as biodegradeable...

Hey.....if they are edible then all bets are off!

Who sees that Matthias's observation will ultimately end with the Balearics invoking a new rite of passage into manhood for their Slinging Niños .
Open up Pedro, it's only 40 meters! Ok then, no water for you today unless you can catch it from my sling!

I’ve thrown oranges. Don’t worry, I don’t throw ones that are edible or will likely become edible if allowed to continue to grow. Anyways I threw an orange from my house over a parking lot towards an intersection late at night (no cars were present). The orange disappeared into the darkness and then I heard a distant WAP! I had no idea what I hit. I didn’t think I threw hard enough to hit the buildings on the other side of intersection. The next morning I looked for the orange. I couldn’t find it anywhere. Then I looked up and saw remnants of the orange “ground” into a wooden telephone pole about 8 feet up. I paced the distance and estimate it was about 98 yards.
