My Puruvian sling (Read 3829 times)

The loop is a bit big. It is very stiff but I am sure it will loosen up. Other than that it handles very nice. I am going to make a shorter one based on either Baraks(sp?) or the ones Ben was selling.
I love this round braid it has no strech at all. If any one was wondering about polyester yarn for slings it is horible for regular braided slings but with the round braid it works great with no streach.
I want to use llama or alpaca wool for my next but cant find it any where.

Amras Descens I love Slinging.org! Posts: 118	Re: My Puruvian sling Reply #4 - Jul 19^th, 2006, 5:33pm On the releas cored I cut one strand out of the the core every 4 1/2 inches to taper it from 16 strands to 8 strands over 3 feet. It dose not crack which is good for hunting. Thanks,

Splendid work! A round braid, you say? It looks like I'll have to put one of these on my to-do list ( which is already too long, but what the heck. ) The "finger" loop looks rather large and I wonder if it is a WRIST loop?? When I made my slings I was a bit wary of putting that much stress on one finger so I made my slings with a loop big enough for three fingers. This has worked very well for me. Also, just how big a rock does this sling take? Does it work well for different size stones?

siguy Interfector Viris Spurii si vis pacem para bellum Posts: 1714 Gender:	Re: My Puruvian sling Reply #6 - Jul 19^th, 2006, 5:41pm it will probably loosen up a bit, even more if you try to crack it like a whip a few times. i made some really stiff hemp slings and then after just a handful of stones they were dramatically softer and less stiff. that is a very nice sling though. how long do you think it took you to make it?

Yes it's a wrist loop. I could sling any thing from golfball size to softball size. It is a very vesitile pouch design. If you make one and you need help I will be happy to help you.

I am not sure how long it took me but I here a simple one takes around 40 hours. I think I started it in Febuary but I got caught up in school and stuff so I did not work on it for a few months. Just started back up this month. I work on it for a couple hours or minutes every morning and night or so.
I am suprized at my accuracy with this sling. I am more accurate with this than my 5 1/2 foot braided sling ???

It reminds me of a sling I saw in the American Indian Museum in DC yesterday, in an exhibit of Incan people and one of the pieces was a ceremonial sling used in their dances that looked quite like that one. That looks like a fine piece of workmanship.

I will try to write it out on paper first and then get pics when I start my next one. I did not add strands so I dont know if I will include that.
