Blackbeard's sling
Jul 9th, 2006 at 11:39pm

Well, the history channel is on in the background (surprise!) and theres a show about pirates/blackbeard. They were showing a 'grenade' which they found in what may have been blackbeard's  ship. It was a hollow iron ball, filled with blackpowder, and plugged with wood and a fuse.
There description mentioned that it was "Thrown by hand or flung with a sling"

Anyone know more about this?

BK, I thought of you (now wouldn't that be embarrassing if you aren't the Blackbeard guy) Smiley

Thanks for thinking of me. I am in fact the "Blackbeard Guy", having spent a number of years on pirate research. I have never seen any documentation mentioning the use of slings by pirates, but since they were quick to use whatever worked for them, I think the use of slings would be a definate possibility. Yo Ho!

Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he will sit in a boat and drink beer all day.
