i like mine at least 3 and a half feet long. most people like them about 2 feet, but you get REALLY good range with longer ones(duh).

i like rather long slings  (my current sling is 70cms from the grip zone to the middle of the pouch), i've made some even larger may be about 1 metre  or so but i feel comfort with 70-80 cms. Shepards here in the south of Spain use shorter ones, about 40 cms  and they shoot real far away and accurately

It's all about intended use and technique. The longest sling I've used is about 40in from loop to pouch, but it's not near as controlable as my 36in sling. The style with which I sling limits me to a sling that isn't so long that it hits the ground on my wind up.

The sling i almost always use is 43 inches from the middle of the pouch to the end of the loop.  I've always practiced with about that length, and anything smaller feels weird.  I also have my six foot sling.  I've had some good times with that one.

I like mine 28-32" long from loop to pouch.  Add 3.5" to center of pouch.

I have not personally noted much difference in distance with slings in this length with my style.

The longitude of the sling should be according to the use that is wanted to give.

The more long it is the sling, more distance it is reached in the launching

If the sling is shorter, it is used to make aim

The Balearic primitive slingers, they used to take three slings of three different sizes

The shortest, they took it tied to the head and they used it to hunt

The other ones two, took them one in the hand to rush at half distance, this it was used to defend, the same as the longest that they took it tied to the waist.

Greetings,
Vicente

How nteresting!  Vicente
I've always used rather long slings,  i'll make a short one (let's say  about 16" to 20") and test if  accuracy gets improoved.

33" pocket-center to knot feels best to me.    My "hip-pocket" sling is just 19.5", but it's handier to carry, more accurate for overhanding, and gives almost as much range.    mgreenfield

One sling is 30 inches from finger to pouch. The other is 40 inches. I am able to get about the same distance with both slings, but i haven't used my longer one to get very much yet. I also wish to make a  20, 25, 50, and a 60 inch sling in the future. Maybe around deer season i will do it.

From grip to pouch 78 cm (sorry you'll have to convert to your evil imperial) Doesn't include the pouch.

I also have a 36 cm not including pouch.  I don't use that one very often but I still have it.

Hey Gun,

What slinging stlye to you use with a 40 inch sling?

For some odd reason I like my slings to be the same length, 21 inches

Question; is this overall length, or length when doubled?

We do normally measure length folded, from the fold in the pouch to the release knot or end of the fingerloop, (=same length).

So if no other info is given it is likely to be folded.

I like a very short sling, 45 cm folded. (18")

Hi.
My braided slings are from 18" (46cm) to 23" (59cm) long.
My other slings are from 25" (64cm) to 45" (114cm) long.
That is when folded.
