What material is the finger loop and pouch? Leather? Are there hints that these guys had shields or this your interpretation? Together with spears (nearer to the enemy for throwing, relatively good close combat weapon) it makes sense to have a shield. Zwiebeltuete

The thong for the javelin is leather. The name Peltast comes from the greek name for a light shield, "pelta". Greek peltasts got so deadly at one point that hoplite (heavy infantry) armies refused to fight them! Johnny
