I've heard that, but it's more likely that he was just left handed and it was easier for him..... I mean, that isn't exactly a tough code to break.

Could be a great code if it was actually intended to be so transparent

Dale, yes you're right about the point of my reference.....and I would add that I have finally succeeded where before I had met with frustration.

I just tried typing backwards and somehow, it worked well for me.

But still,  I prefer facing the screen....for obvious reasons.

Cheesy

And people accuse us of getting side-tracked.
Whatever do they mean?

I've only found figure eights in my sling.

Since we're sidetracked.....

Has anyone seen the unsyndicated comic: 'Mobius Strip'?

It's main character is always trying to see both sides of every issue......and keeps going in circles....wearing himself inside out in the process!

You know, I would complain mightily about just how HIJACKED this topic has gotten ... if I hadn't cooperated in the hijacking myself...  Undecided

But I still think that a figure-8 is about the most complicated knot a cord can tie all by itself.  I've gotten overhands and figure-8s once in a while with every slinging style I've tried.  It does seem to happen more often with overhand casts (Nwmanitou/figure-8/tennis, but almost never with Apache).

Unsapien, did I understand you to say that your sling knows how to tie a figure-8, but you have never seen it do an overhand?

TS,
My friend the Punmaster has a paper Möbius strip, that has the following written along its length:

No sling knots yet; but I've seen overhand, figure eight and overhand slip knots appear in the end of a bullwhip. 8)

Well I've questioned it before, and it simply refused to show me anything. It simply sits there looking bored.

What I meant to say was I have only noticed the figure 8 when it happends. I went slinging only a short while ago, and found a overhand knot in my braided sling. Perhaps it was I wasn't paying attention.  However on the whole, my string slings tend to favor figure 8s more often than overhands it seems. This discovery is a little strange I think. The overhand is such a simply knot, and if I were to compare the two I would say the figure 8 is more involved.

Perhaps my sling is playing tricks on me. I can always jot it down as being a consistant slinger.  Undecided

Where else can a person read a thread on knots and see so many other subjects creep in?

Funny that your string favours the fig of 8 knot.
Is it a thin string? Or very flexible?
My relative heavy braided strings never seem to knot themselfs.

I admit it was I whose twisted joke rather spontaneously whipped a knot into this thread.....I'm just glad it wasn't a figure eight.

It won't happen again.

(On this thread)

I promise!
